Friday again!
This week we started antenatal class, it was really cool, though we have 13 couples in our group! We found out that all bar one couple want to do the same as when it comes to birthing and that is birth at ChCh Women's and transfer to St Georges which could prove tricky as we're all due in February and St Georges only have 17 maternity rooms, so we may end up somewhere like Burwood...not really keen to travel out to Lincoln or Rangiora!
We got heaps of good info and seem to have a good mix of people in our class. Each class is 2 & 1/4 hours long which might be interesting in a few weeks when all us ladies are massive lol.
Found out that Burwood Hospital run an aquanatal class for preggy ladies from 27weeks gest. on a Wednesday and Friday from 11am-12pm for $2 so went along today and had some fun. Nothing more hilarious than an entire pool full of pregnant gals and about five of them were between 5-10 days overdue today! Met some nice ladies and the physio instructor was a real hard case.
Saw our midwife on Tuesday, only just got to see her as she had yet another lady go into labour that morning so she was leaving after seeing me! They always pick Tuesday lol. She is happy with everything, baby's heart rate was again 130-140bpm and measurements are still bang on. Got my hospital booking forms in and got a referral for my 28 week blood tests.
Got the 28 week follow up antenatal bloods and 2 hour glucose tolerance test yesterday. Yep, call me pin cushion. As if fasting for 12 hours isn't bad enough, that 75g glucose drink is so sickly it was a struggle to get it all down in the allocated 5 minutes, then it made me feel nauseous and dizzy, blerk, made baby do back flips almost!
Got the results already this morning and seem to have passed everything with flying colours, except my iron level is only 7 (range 20-200) so am waiting to hear from the midwife as to whether I need supplements. Have been eating heaps of red meat, almost craving steak (probably a good sign I'm lacking something) and getting lots of Vitamin C. I haven't really noticed that I've been particularly tired and if so I've put it down to not sleeping well. I have noticed though that I've been a little short of breath but also just passed that off as baby taking up more space. Looking back at my first bloods it doesn't seem that iron was included so nothing to compare with.
We got our new mattress yesterday and I think I slept pretty well last night. It is a bit softer than our old one so will take some getting used to.
Not much news about baby this week. His movements seem different, more the little pokes and jabs again and not so strong, though still feeling him often. I'm assuming he's just filling up more space. He's growing about a cm a week and still needs to put on heaps of fat. His head would measure about 7cm in diameter and he weighs just over a kilo. Apparently blinking a lot now too.
